The display device according to the invention for displaying optical information to persons in spatially extensive areas comprises an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) having a flight control system (CRT) which is configured for geo-referenced navigation and a largely autonomous flight control, a display unit (DSP) that can be connected to the aerial vehicle for displaying freely definable display contents, and a contactless interface (IF) for exchanging control data with a base station (BS). The control data comprises at least an intermediate position and data defining the display content.
