PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a development device that is capable of improving the periodic variation in density by an AC development bias while reducing the influence by a plus side bias of the AC development bias, and suppressing the deterioration of development ability over a long period of time.SOLUTION: A development device 5 includes a developer G containing a toner and a carrier; and a developer carrier 50 that supplies the toner in the developer to a latent image on a surface of a latent image carrier 1 at a development area facing the latent image carrier, and thereby develops the latent image. The carrier contains fine particles and has an X value of 11.5 to 16.0 in the volume specific resistance R(=10)(Ω cm). The developer carrier includes magnetic field generating means 55 having a plurality of magnetic poles and the developer carrier that carries the developer on the cylindrical outer peripheral surface thereof by magnetic force of the magnetic field generating means and rotates with respect to a development device main body to move the surface of the developer carrier. The development device includes development sleeve voltage application means 151 for applying on the developer carrier a voltage including an AC component.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11
