PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device that can prevent or suppress, with a simple configuration, a change in glossiness caused by roughness generated on the surface of a fixing member.SOLUTION: A fixing device includes: a first rotor 116B and a second rotor 116C that are in contact with each other to form a nip part N; a heating member 116D for increasing the temperature of the nip part N; a contact member 117 that is in contact with the first rotor 116B and/or second rotor 116C to improve the state of the surface of the rotor 116B; and a separation part that separates the contact member 117 from the rotor 116B. The separation part adjusts contact/separation of the contact member 117 with/from the rotor 116B according to the estimated degree of deterioration of the state of the surface that is estimated on the basis of the estimated quantity of heat applied to a recording medium when passing through the nip part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
