PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a MEMS variable optical attenuator capable of preventing overshoot or undershoot when controlling an attenuation amount and setting a desired optical attenuation amount with high precision in a short time.SOLUTION: Concerning a control voltage (A) of the variable optical attenuator, correction means B:V' for correcting at least either of overshoot or undershoot occurred when a setting value of an output signal is changed on the basis of residence time information t-tof an optical attenuator amount setting value held until immediately before the setting value is changed tis provided to generate an overshoot correction waveform C.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
