PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder composition which enables the formation of a lithium ion secondary battery electrode which exhibits a high charge/discharge capacity and has high flexibility.SOLUTION: A binder composition for a lithium ion secondary battery electrode comprises: an emulsion in which polymer particles originating from an ethylenic unsaturated monomer are dispersed in a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin aqueous solution. The polyvinyl alcohol-based resin has a viscosity average polymerization degree of 400-3000.SELECTED DRAWING: None
