VIEWING AND TRACKING OF TARGET OBJECTS

Disclosed are methods and apparatuses for obtaining positional information relating to a target object, particularly where the target object which is hidden from view, and not in the line of sight of the apparatus. The apparatus comprises an illumination source operable to illuminate a scattering surface, the scattering surface being within the line of sight of the target object, such that scattered radiation is scattered by the scattering surface. The apparatus also comprises a detection device operable to detect reflected radiation, the reflected radiation being the scattered radiation which has reflected off the target object to within the field of view of the detection device and a processor operable to calculate the positional information from the detected reflected radiation.
