The present invention relates to a velocity control system for a wind power generator and a method thereof which can induce weight reduction of the wind power generator by controlling a power generation operation of the wind power generator preemptively by detecting an acceleration due to rotation of a blade rotating according to wind power, when rapid wind velocity change is generated by a gust or a typhoon in the wind power generator. The velocity control system for the wind power generator according to the present invention includes: the blade providing rotary force by wind power; a power generation part generating power using the rotary force provided from the blade; a velocity detection part which detects the acceleration by differentiating the rotation velocity of the power generation part; and a control part which controls to stop the power generation operation of the power generation part when the acceleration detected by the velocity detection part increases over a fixed reference value due to the rapid wind power change.
