The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases comprising aurantiamide acetate as an active ingredient. More particularly, the present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases comprising aurantiamide acetate separated from Aspergillus SF-5921 and having an anti-neuritic effect as an active ingredient. The composition for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases comprising aurantiamide acetate as an active ingredient according to the present invention is effective for inhibiting production of nitrogen oxides, PGE-2 and IL-1b in the microglia, inhibiting expression of iNOS and COX-2, suppressing activation of NF-κB, reducing IKK α/β/γ phosphorylation level and for reducing JNK and p38 MAPK phosphorylation level, with regard to neuritic responses, and has no cytoxicity. Thus, the composition can be useful for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases.
