PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating nicotine-responsive neuropsychiatric disorders by administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of exo-S-mecamylamine which is substantially free of exo-R-mecamylamine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, where the pharmaceutically effective amount means an amount sufficient to improve the conditions.SOLUTION: Provided is a pharmaceutical composition for treating nicotine-responsive neuropsychiatric disorders, comprising a pharmaceutically effective amount of exo-S-mecamylamine substantially free of exo-R-mecamylamine, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Preferably, the pharmaceutically effective amount of exo-S-mecamylamine is about 0.5 mg to about 20 mg.SELECTED DRAWING: None
