A medical imaging system including an imaging device configured to scan a region of interest to acquire an image including a plurality of pixels of the region of interest, a display output, and a processing unit. The processing unit is configured to receive the image including the plurality of pixels of the region of interest, enhance the image, segment fiducial candidate regions in a binary volume, determine a candidate centerline for each of the fiducial candidate regions in the binary volume, identify a true fiducial region from the fiducial candidate regions based on at least one of curvature, dimensions, and intensity present in the fiducial candidate regions, recover a fiducial component from the true fiducial region, and send an estimated fiducial volume of the recovered fiducial component to the display output. |
