The present application relates to data conversion unit and method for converting image data and a display device having a data conversion unit. To provide data conversion unit and method and a display device adapted to increase brightness by adding white pixel data and to independently control brightness of white data signal and to realize a high contrast ratio without increasing brightness of backlight a data conversion unit is provided comprising: a transformation portion (130) configured to transform R (red), G (green) and B (blue) sub-pixel data signals of input image data into R, G, B and W (white) sub-pixel data signals; and a brightness reinforcement portion (150) configured to reinforce brightness of the transformed W sub-pixel data signal based on a distribution of color pixel data signals of the input image data in accordance with brightness. |
