Automated, computerized image processing

A method for processing an image is disclosed. An image is provided as an image file and a region of the image is determined which represents a single material under varying illumination. For this region a material field and an illumination field are identified. ln embodiments the determination of the region is carried out by identifying token regions in the image as a function of pixel color comparisons and examining token region neighbors to identify token region neighbors having a change caused by an illumination change.
