A froth flotation cell comprises at least one pair of opposed impellers arranged to cause opposing horizontal liquid streams to be forced together to create turbulence, the cell also having on one side a tailings removal pipe, on the other side a froth removal pipe, and on both sides pipes for introducing materials through the respective impellers, the entire surface of the cell being free for the collection of froth. Each cell a, of a series, comprises a tailings container c to which tailings pass over an adjustable weir p and which is connected by a pipe b to the housing g of an impeller f of an adjacent cell: a froth container o is similarly connected by a pipe b<SP>1</SP> to the housing g of the opposite impeller f of the other adjacent cell. The impellers, of opposite hand, are mounted on the horizontal shaft d or on separate shafts. The cell also comprises perforated plates j and a froth remover k, l, skimming froth into the container o, or for final removal into another container q when a plate p<SP>1</SP> is in the closed position. Each housing g has apertures y, which in the case of one housing communicate through a pipe x with apertures w for the removal of settlings from the cell corners. |
