A display apparatus and image playing method thereof, are provided. The display apparatus includes a broadcasting receiver which receives a broadcasting signal; a communication unit which communicates with an external device comprising a storage medium; a first buffer which buffers the broadcasting signal to store the received broadcasting signal in the storage medium; a second buffer which buffers a broadcasting signal input from the external device to play the broadcasting signal stored in the storage medium; and a controller which outputs a control signal to the external device to control a broadcasting signal reception volume received from the external device based on at least one buffer volume of the first buffer and the second buffer upon execution of a broadcasting recording and playing function which stores the broadcasting signal in the storage medium and play the stored broadcasting signal.
