<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quench tank which prevents a bubble from being entrained when a liquid metal is fed into the free liquid level in the tank. <P>SOLUTION: A quench tank allows bubbles entrained in a liquid metal to move upward to collide with a separation plate arranged at a tilt so that the bubbles are combined to each other to grow at the surface of the separation plate, while the liquid metal in the cylindrical body flows in an approximately horizontal direction. The grown bubble having an increased rising velocity moves upward in the flowing liquid metal along the surface of the separation plate so as to dissipate at the free liquid level. The bubbles entrained in the liquid metal are thus separated in the cylindrical body. In addition, the separation plate allows the bubbles to grow for easy rising, so that the horizontal length necessary for separation of the bubbles can be reduced.
