The present invention relates to an attenuated vaccinia virus strain KVAC 1 0 3 which is isolated after a successive culture of a vaccinia virus strain in VERO cells for 103 times. The attenuated vaccinia virus strain KVAC103 shows remarkably reduced toxicity and less induces skin lesions. In addition, the strain also effectively induces immune reactions against poxvirus. Thus, the strain can be used as a vaccine for poxvirus with causing less adverse effects.
