摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-reliability surface-emitting laser with little occurrence of, for example, a breaking. <P>SOLUTION: A surface-emitting laser comprises: a lower semiconductor DBR, an active layer, and an upper semiconductor DBR that are sequentially stacked on a substrate; a mesa formed in the active layer and the upper semiconductor DBR; and electrodes formed from the top surface to side surfaces of the mesa. The top surface of the mesa has a polygonal shape. The electrodes are each formed on two or more surfaces of the side surfaces of the mesa. The two or more electrodes formed on the side surfaces of the mesa are connected to each other.
