The present invention relates to a composite initiator comprising at least two diacyl peroxide compounds, and carboxylate peroxide compounds. A better effect can be obtained by adding alkyl peroxide compounds into the above composite initiator. The present invention also relates to the use of the composite initiator and an unsaturated polyester resin composition comprising the above composite initiator. The unsaturated polyester resin composition comprises an unsaturated polyester resin, the composite initiator, a polymerization inhibitor, and an accelerant. The present invention can increase the curing speed of unsaturated polyester resins at various temperatures, especially at low temperatures, while enhancing the curing degree of the unsaturated polyester resins at low temperatures and improving the mechanical properties of the cured products thereof.
