This cylindrical roller (3) provides ample permissible load while minimizing the occurrence of uneven contact, and is moreover easy to manufacture. The cylindrical roller is disposed between a pair of orbital surfaces and rolls while bearing a load, is formed to a cylindrical shape having an outside peripheral surface for contacting the orbital surfaces, and has a single rotating shaft. A recess (32) which faces towards the center of rotation of the orbital surfaces is formed in the two end surfaces situated in the direction of the axis of rotation. Within the context of relationship between the ratio of the depth of the recess (32) to the diameter of the cylindrical roller (3), and permissible weight within a range such that uneven contact of the cylindrical roller (3) does not occur, the depth of the recess (32) is set such that the ratio of the diameter of the cylindrical roller (3) and the depth of the recess (32) is equal to or greater than a value at which the peak of the permissible load of the cylindrical roller (3) is exhibited. |
