The present invention relates to a method for treating, re-using and minimising industrial aqueous currents that have different osmotic pressures, using direct osmosis. The invention consists in putting in contact two currents having different osmotic pressures and separated by a semipermeable membrane. Owing to the osmotic pressure difference between the two currents, that having lower osmotic pressure transfers part of its liquid or solvent content to that having greater osmotic pressure. In this way, by direct osmosis, a concentrated current having lower osmotic pressure and a diluted current having greater osmotic pressure are obtained. Instead of the diluted current having greater osmotic pressure being again treated for the re-concentration thereof, this current can be directed to and used in an industrial process in which it is of use, given its properties.
