An embodiment of the present invention relates to a digital information display (DID) apparatus and a method for operating the same. The objective of the present invention is to provide a method for providing a personalized service through authentication of a mobile phone user, as well as a function for providing advertisement by using the DID apparatus. The method comprises the steps of: receiving app login information for an application and IP information of a user terminal through an NFC reader; authenticating the app login information through a server and performing system login on the user terminal with the result of authentication; providing a customized information service to the user terminal; receiving the IP information periodically through surrounding APs; and terminating the customized information service for the user terminal when the IP information is not detected.
