PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting failures in electrical cable assemblies.SOLUTION: A cable test instrument obtains frequency domain data representing electrical characteristics of a cable under test (402). The number of connectors in the link under test is determined on the basis of the obtained frequency domain data (410, 412, 422). The cable test instrument estimates a location of each of the connectors along the length of the cable link under test (424).
