PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the sizes and shapes of various documents.SOLUTION: An image reading device moves a first capacitive sensor included in a reading part in a predetermined direction with respect to a document platen glass, and determines the size and shape of a document on the basis of the difference between the capacitance detected by the first capacitive sensor according to the movement and the capacitance detected by a second capacitive sensor provided at a position not being affected by capacitance due to the presence/absence of a document placed on the document platen glass.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
