The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating degenerative brain disease, containing, as an active ingredient, a fraction produced using a Coriandrum sativum L. (CS) extract. More specifically, the Coriandrum sativum L. extract of the present invention increases an amount of heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) and NADH quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) which are antioxidant factors and is involved in the translocation of Nrf2 into a nucleus, while inhibiting over-production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby protecting PC12 cells, BV2 cells, and midbrain dopamine cells from 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium ion (MPP^+) toxic substance. The fraction produced by fractionizing the Coriandrum sativum L. extract by means of an organic solvent inhibits acetylcolin esterase, and significantly increases cell viability, thereby being useful for preventing and treating degenerative brain disease. |
