PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphor having a high quantum efficiency, that has a good temperature characteristic as well as that can emit a yellow light having an excellent color rendering property.SOLUTION: Provided is a phosphor that exhibits a luminescence peak in a wavelength range of 500 to 600 nm when excited by a light having a luminescence peak in a wavelength range of 250 to 500 nm. The phosphor is represented by the following general formula (1), and has a paramagnetism defect density of 5×10cells/g or less. (MCe))AlSiON(1).
