PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystalline compound that develops liquid crystallinity at low temperature, and to provide a heat-responsive material and a production method of the material, which has liquid crystallinity and rubber elasticity at low temperature (near room temperature) while having a large content of a liquid crystalline compound.SOLUTION: The liquid crystalline compound of the present invention is prepared by adding an alkylene oxide and/or styrene oxide to a mesogen group-containing compound having an active hydrogen group.SELECTED DRAWING: None
