A cylinder device (C1) is provided with: a recess (2a) provided in either a piston (2) or a cylinder (1) and facing the other of the piston (2) and the cylinder (1); an extension-side discharge passage (6) for only allowing liquid to flow from an extension-side chamber (R1) to the recess (2a); a pressure-side discharge passage (7) for only allowing liquid to flow from a pressure-side chamber (R2) to the recess (2a); a tank-side discharge passage (8) for connecting the extension-side discharge passage (6) and the pressure-side discharge passage (7) to a tank (T) through the recess (2a); an extension-side damping force generation passage (9) providing resistance to the flow of liquid flowing through the extension-side damping force generation passage (9) during extension operation, thereby exhibiting damping force; and a pressure-side damping force generation passage (10) providing resistance to the flow of liquid flowing through the pressure-side damping force generation passage (10) during retraction operation, thereby exhibiting damping force. |
