TECHNIQUES FOR ASCRIBING SOCIAL ATTRIBUTES TO CONTENT

Techniques for ascribing social attributes to content items and for selecting content to display in a content feed are described. According to various embodiments, accessing one or more content items accessible via a network are accessed, each of the content items having received one or more social activity signals. Thereafter, members of an online social network service that submitted the social activity signals may be identified. Member profile data identifying member profile attributes of the members cemented the social activity signals may then be accessed. Thereafter, social attribute information may be generated and associated with each of the content items, the social attribute information identifying the member profile attributes of the members that submitted the social activity signals associated with each of the content items.

a processor; a memory device holding an instruction set executable on the processor to cause the computer system to perform operations comprising:
generating social attribute information associated with at least one content item, the social attribute information identifying respective member profile attributes of each of the reference members of an online social network that submitted social activity signals related to the at least one content item;storing the social attribute information in at least one database in association with the at least one content item;based on determining a match between the social attribute information and at least one member profile attributes of a target member of the online social network, displaying the at least one content item in a content feed viewable by the target member, wherein the content feed includes an identification of at least one of the reference members.
