This cutting insert (1) is provided with a first end face (2) and a second end face (3) that face each other and an encircling side surface (4) that connects same, and comprises a central axis line (O) prescribed so as to pierce said end faces. Along the intersection ridge between the first end face (2) and the encircling side surface (4), main cutting edges (8) and secondary cutting edges (10) that are connected via corner cutting edges (9) are formed. The encircling side surface comprises first side surfaces (4a) related to the main cutting edges and second side surfaces (4b) related to the secondary cutting edges. The first side surfaces (4a) gradually widen toward the outside of the cutting insert progressing from the first end face-side to the second end face-side. When determining an imaginary surface (L1) that is roughly perpendicular to the central axis line (O) and passes through a main cutting edge (8), an inclined section (3a) of the second end face (2) that is on the back side of the cutting edge is inclined so as to separate from the second imaginary surface (L1) progressing from the first side surface (4a) towards the central axis line (O). |
