PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte battery showing high safety, and arranged so that the worsening of input and output characteristics can be suppressed.SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, a nonaqueous electrolyte battery 10 is provided. The nonaqueous electrolyte battery 10 comprises a negative electrode 20, a positive electrode 30 and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The negative electrode 20 has a negative electrode layer 22. The negative electrode layer 22 includes a metal compound of which the Li occlusion potential is 0.4 V vs. Li/Lior larger. The negative electrode layer 22 has an insulator layer 40 integrated with its surface. In pore diameter distribution of the negative electrode layer 22 including the insulator layer 40, obtained by a mercury press-in method, a first peak which is the largest in pore volume, and a second peak which is the second largest in pore volume arise.
