PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine 1 having a modifying cylinder 15 or a fuel modifier capable of premixing an injected fuel, intake air and exhaust gas quickly in proper quantities.SOLUTION: An engine 1 having a modifying cylinder 15 or a fuel modifying device for modifying the fuel by the reciprocating motions of a modifying piston 18 mounted in a modifying cylinder 17, comprises: an expansion chamber 23 having its capacity varied by the reciprocating actions of the modifying piston 18; and a reaction chamber 24 having a constant capacity, and the expansion chamber 23 and the reaction chamber 24 are made to communicate with the modifying piston 18.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
