PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle drive system which has high efficiency, safety and controllability and is compact in size and low in cost and to provide a control method for the same.SOLUTION: A vehicle drive system comprises: a first electric motor; a second electric motor; a clutch mechanism which is installed between a first rotating shaft of the first electric motor and a second rotating shaft of the second electric motor and connects and disconnects the first rotating shaft to and from the second rotating shaft; a control unit which is connected to the first electric motor, the second electric motor and the clutch mechanism; and a sensor which is connected to the control unit and senses a traveling state of a vehicle. The control unit is configured to control the first electric motor, the second electric motor and the clutch mechanism by deciding an operation mode of the clutch mechanism and/or the operation modes and loads of the first electric motor and the second electric motor on the basis of a signal indicating the traveling state of the vehicle output by the sensor. Thus, the vehicle drive system has high efficiency, safety and controllability and is compact in size and low in cost.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
