A method and device for detecting voice chip are provided in the present invention. The method includes: connecting a first voice interface of a first home gateway apparatus and a second voice interface of a second home gateway apparatus via a telephone self-circle wire used for connecting voice interfaces, and the first voice interface locates on a first voice chip of the first home gateway, the second voice interface locates on a second voice chip having normal voice function of the second home gateway; transmitting the first given information for detecting the first voice chip via the first voice interface to the second voice interface; receiving the second given information which is obtained by processing the first given information and returned from the second voice interface; detecting the first voice chip according to the first given information and the second given information. The present invention solves the problem of the high cost of the voice chip detection in the related art, and achieves the effect of reducing the cost of the voice chip detection.
