HONEYCOMB FIRED BODY, HONEYCOMB FILTER, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE BODY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb fired body which has satisfactory low pressure loss and high strength and the deterioration of whose heat capacity can be suppressed.SOLUTION: The honeycomb fired body 10 includes: a plurality of cells 20 each having one plugged end; and porous partition walls for partitioning the cells. A constituent material of the honeycomb fired body is SiC. The plurality of cells include outer peripheral cells 21 of an outermost peripheral part and inside cells 22 on the inside. Cross-sectional shapes perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the inside cells are each the same rectangle. The outer peripheral cell is formed from the partition walls 30 and an outer peripheral wall. The partition wall to be connected to the outer peripheral wall has such a thick wall area that the thickness thereof becomes larger gradually as it goes to the outer peripheral wall. The cross-sectional shape perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the outer peripheral cell is a shape which is obtained by chamfering two corners of another rectangle obtained by reducing the rectangle being the cross-sectional shape of the inside cell. An area of the cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the outer peripheral cell is 60-80% of that of the cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the inside cell. The partition wall includes the cell partition wall between the adjacent outer peripheral cells and that between the cell partition wall between the adjacent inside cells. The minimal thickness of the partition wall between the adjacent outer peripheral cells is made thicker than the thickness of the partition wall between the adjacent inside cells.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
