504,294. Sliding - window fasteners. BECKETT, LAYCOCK, & WATKINSON, Ltd., and BUSHNELL, F. B. Oct. 22, 1937, No. 28931. [Class 44] A fastening for sliding windows comprises a channel member extending across the edge of one pane and rockably mounted thereon to engage a projection provided near the edge of the other pane, the two, when in engagement, sealing the gap between the panes. As shown, the pane 14 is slidable in a feltlined channel 11, and its lower edge has secured thereto a lined channel member 16 with a flange 17. The upper edge of pane 18 has secured thereto a lined channel 20 with an upturned lip 27, and a centrally disposed fixed bracket 30. A second channel member 23 loosely embracing member 20 has a depending limb 24 engaged in the groove behind lip 27 to provide a fulcrum on which member 23 can rock, and a limb 28 centrally cut away to clear bracket 30. A finger-piece 33 secured to member 23 by rivets 31 has a projection 34 with which a central limb 36 of a double-coil spring 35 engages, the ends 37 of the spring engaging bracket 30. Normally, the spring holds member 23 so that its corner 26 engages under flange 17 when the window is closed. To effect release, member 23 is rocked by fingerpiece 33 to the position shown. Modifications described include disposition of 'the spring immediately behind limb 24, and dispensing with the spring by forming lip 27 to grip limb 24 and give the requisite resilient bias, or by forming limb 24 as an integral extension of the lip. According to the Provisional Specification the parts 24, 27 may be hinged together by providing part 24 with a head, or with tongues engaging slots in part 27.
