PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a rise in temperature of a light emitting element at a main-scanning-directional center part when continuous reading is performed for a long time while a light source unit having light emitting elements arrayed in a main scanning direction is fixed at a reading position.SOLUTION: There is provided an image reader that includes a light source unit 45, having a plurality of light emitting elements 76 emitting light toward a document arrayed in a main scanning direction, in a device housing 43. The device housing 43 is provided with two opening parts which are a suction port 81 and an exhaust port 91; and the suction port 81 is provided in the proximity to the light source unit 45 stopped at a reading position for a document transported by a document transport device and close to a second side face 43a of the device housing 43 along a sub-scanning direction Y orthogonal to the main scanning direction X on a first side face 43c of the device housing 43 along the main scanning direction X, and the exhaust port 91 is provided on a third side face 43b of the device housing 43 along the sub-scanning direction Y so that an air flow passage from the suction port 81 passes near the center part in the main scanning direction X of the light source unit 45 stopped at the reading position. |
