The method involves exhibiting desired quality regarding form, dimension and/or surface condition of an optical element i.e. projection lens (7) by insert molding of a blank (30) with an additional plastic layer (31), after process cycles. The blank is molded with outer, circular edges (7'', 7''') that protrude over a partial area (7') of the optical element, in another process. The edges are utilized for holding and positioning the blank in a cavity of a mold tool to be injected, in one of the former process cycles.
