[Class 109] Relates to the manufacture of twisted covered cords or threads by continuous operation of one machine, whereby a cord &c. composed of strands, each having a twisted core and a covering twisted upon it is made by rotating sets of bobbins in one direction and revolving them in the other. A plate 33 carrying flyers &c. is supported and driven by a vertical central shaft 19 passing through the centre of a fixed sun wheel 31. The underside of the plate carries idle pinions 34 meshing with the sun wheel and pinions 35 meshing with the pinions 34. A platform 37 for two rows of bobbins &c. is mounted on each of the spindles carrying the pinions 35. The threads, which may be of cotton, from the inner set of bobbins pass through holes 49 in a cross member 45, and between conical surfaces 50, 51. The threads, which may be of silk, from the outer set, pass through holes 57 in a ring 56 and are tensioned by the weight of a top ring 58. The strands formed by the combined rotation and revolution of the bobbins are twisted together at a nozzle 46. |
