The method involves pressing a closure element (2) into an interior of a passage opening (4), such that a point of the greatest diameter (d-1) of the closure element passes into a passage opening inner side. A directed side comprises a rounding with respect to the passage opening inner side at the point of the greatest diameter of the closure element. The plastic deformation of a material at a passage opening inner sheath (3') is developed by feed of the closure element, where an annular bead (5,6) is formed in an insertion direction in front of the closure element. The plastically deformed material is flowed back against a pressing direction. The annular bead is formed on a side located opposite to the pressing direction of the closure element, where an overall annular bead is formed, which is fixed in the passage opening of the closure element. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a closure element with a holder; and (2) a press for pressing the closure elements in the passage openings.
