A powered furniture system comprising an item of furniture 7, which may be a desk, table, seat or workstation, and a power unit 5 that can fit inside the furniture item (see figure 1A, 15) where the power unit 5 comprises a rechargeable power source such as a battery and at least one power outlet for providing power from the rechargeable power source 5 to a portable electronic device when the power unit 5 is inserted into the furniture item 7. The powered furniture system may include a locking mechanism for lockable engagement of the power unit and furniture item, which may be a lock operated by a key, a code or a combination lock. The rechargeable power module 5 may be a removable battery. A rechargeable power module including a wireless inductive power charging pad and a rechargeable power module comprising a solar panel are also disclosed. |
