Compositions for directed alignment of conjugated polymers

Conjugated polymers (CPs) achieve directed alignment along an applied flow field and a dichroic ratio of as high as 16.67 in emission from well-aligned thin films and fully realized anisotropic optoelectronic properties of CPs in field-effect transistor (FET).

1. A conductive polymer comprising an aromatic repeating unit, the repeating unit comprising:
a) an aromatic π-conjugated backbone comprising three or four aromatic rings, and further comprising at least one sulfur atom and at least one fluorine atom, the sulfur and fluorine atoms being located on adjacent aromatic rings and separated by three carbon atoms of the π-conjugated backbone; b) an aliphatic ring fused to at least one of the aromatic rings of the repeating unit; c) two side chains connected to an sp3 carbon of the fused aliphatic ring, wherein the side chains are aliphatic and have 4 or more non-hydrogen atoms.
