Provided are a control apparatus and method for a motor driven power steering (MDPS) drive motor, capable of reducing a torque ripple and noise by a precise flux weakening control. The control apparatus for the MDPS drive motor includes: an input voltage measuring unit for measuring an input voltage value; a motor speed input unit for receiving the motor speed; a storage unit for storing a first table and a second table according to the motor speed; and a control unit for calculating a first vector angle through the first table stored in the storage unit with the motor speed inputted from the motor speed input unit and calculating a second vector angle through the second table, and calculating a vector angle between a torque current and a flux current based on the calculated first vector angle, the calculated second vector, and the input voltage value measured from the input voltage measuring unit, wherein the first table is a vector angle between the torque current and the flux current depending on the motor speed based on a maximum input voltage, and the second table is a vector angle between the torque current and the flux current depending on the motor speed based on a minimum input voltage. |
