The present invention relates to a preparation method of a vanadium compound. The preparation method of a vanadium compound comprises: a first step for preparing a material oxidation roasted by heat treating a material including a vanadium source; a second step for separating leachate and a first residue by leaching the oxidation roasted material and collecting the first residue; a third step for preparing vanadate including sodium vanadate (NaVO_3) by mixing sodium salts to the first residue and heat treating the same; and a forth step for recovering a second residue including ammonium meta-vanadate (NH_4VO_3) extracted by mixing the vanadate and a solution including ammonium ions (NH_4^+). The preparation method of the present invention can prepare vanadium or vanadium precursors from vanadium byproducts at low costs with high efficiency.
