Provided is a liquid crystal aligning agent of which a component has good solubility, and which can obtain a liquid crystal display device showing good afterimage properties. A compound (P) having a partial structure represented by chemical formula (1) is contained in the liquid crystal aligning agent. In the chemical formula (1), Y1 is a protection group; and an asterisk (*) symbol exhibits a binding site.
