The present invention relates to a mobile terminal in which at least a part of a display unit is flexible or bendable and a method for controlling the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal comprises: a display unit which is flexibly configured to be in a first state in which a specific region is plane and in a second state in which a specific region is protruded; a detection unit which detects a change of a specific region from any one of the first and second states into the other state; and a control unit which changes the specific region from the first state into the second state when an event occurs in an application, and outputs an icon notifying the event onto the specific region. In this case, the control unit executes at least one function related to the event, when the fact that the specific region is restored from the second state to the first state by external force applied onto the specific region is detected. |
