摘要 The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for controlling engine start for a hybrid electric vehicle. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for controlling engine start for a hybrid electric vehicle can comprise the following steps of: determining whether or not there is a request for engine start; calculating representative motor acceleration based on n number of recent motor acceleration when there is the request for engine start; calculating a first period of time required for the motor speed at the time of the request for engine start to reach the target speed based on the representative motor acceleration; calculating a second period of time required for the engine speed at the time of engine start to reach the target speed; calculating a third period of time by subtracting the second period of time from the first period of time; and determining a point in time to start the engine in accordance with the third period of time. The present invention improves fuel efficiency by shortening the standby time in which the engine is unnecessarily driven.
