A positioning mechanism for use in conjunction with rod and connector construction toy sets, such as K'NEX, enables incrementally adjustable positioning of rods relative to associated connectors. The mechanism includes first and second positioning members (34, 45). The first positioning member (34) is mounted on a rod (29) for angular movement and includes a cylindrical outer surface with multiple detent notches (44). The second positioning member (45) has a convergent pair of resilient fingers (60, 61) engagable with a spaced pair of the detent notches (44) to releasably retain the first positioning member (34) in any incrementally adjusted position. The second positioning member (45) includes mounting studs (52, 53) engageable with laterally spaced connectors (20, 21) of an assembly, and a separate locating element (51) engageable with at least one of the connectors to fix the second positioning member (45) against rotation. The first and second positioning members (34, 45) are easily incorporated into otherwise standard rod and connector structures to achieve the desired incremental adjustability. |
