Provided is an image acquisition system comprising: a light source device that emits illumination light for illuminating an object; an objective optical system that images light from the object illuminated with the illumination light; an imaging element equipped with a plurality of pixels that receive the light imaged by the objective optical system and that subject the received light to photoelectric conversion, thus generating electrical signals; a determination unit that determines whether the object is observed in a distant view or in a near view; and an image-acquisition control unit that performs control so as to set, according to a determination result from the determination unit, the read mode at the imaging element to either a single-pixel read mode, in which an electrical signal generated at each pixel is sequentially read for each pixel, or a pixel-addition read mode, in which an electrical signal generated at a single pixel group, composed of a plurality of pixels, is sequentially read as an electrical signal for each pixel. |
