PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element manufactured with a composition for film formation which is improved in the solubility of hole injection and transport material, has an appropriate dry speed, and enables the stable formation of a uniform coat film.SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescent element is obtained by a manufacturing method comprising the step of forming, by a wet film-formation method, a layer with a composition for film formation including a hole injection and transport material and a liquid in which the material is dissolved. The liquid includes more than one kind of first solvent having an aromatic ring and/or an aliphatic ring, and an oxygen atom in its molecule, and which has a boiling point of 200°C or higher, or a 25°C-vapor pressure of 1 torr or less. Of the more than one kind of first solvent, one first solvent is high in volatility, and another first solvent is low in volatility, which has a higher boiling point, or a lower 25°C-vapor pressure. The ratio W/Wof the weight content Wof the first solvent of high volatility and the weight content Wof the first solvent of low volatility is 1-20.
