PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of identifying a place where an abnormality occurs, without requiring an additional detection circuit component.SOLUTION: A discharge lamp lighting device (1) includes: DC power supply circuits (3 and 4); a full bridge circuit (5) in which a series circuit of first and second switching elements (51 and 52) and a series circuit of third and fourth switching elements (53 and 54) are connected at an output side of the DC power supply circuits and a junction point of the first and second switching elements and a junction point of the third and fourth switching elements are connected via a discharge lamp (9); a current detection circuit (63) for detecting output currents of the DC power supply circuits; and a control part (8) which applies a mode for turning on either a pair of the first and third switching elements or a pair of the second and fourth switching elements and turning off the other pair when the discharge lamp is non-lighted, to determine that an abnormality exists within the discharge lamp lighting device if the detected output current exceeds a threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
